“Every great magic trick consists of three parts or acts. The first part is called "The Pledge". The magician shows you something ordinary: a deck of cards, a bird or a man. He shows you this object. Perhaps he asks you to inspect it to see if it is indeed real, unaltered, normal. But of course... it probably isn't. The second act is called "The Turn". The magician takes the ordinary something and makes it do something extraordinary. Now you're looking for the secret... but you won't find it, because of course you're not really looking. You don't really want to know. You want to be fooled. But you wouldn't clap yet. Because making something disappear isn't enough; you have to bring it back. That's why every magic trick has a third act, the hardest part, the part we call "The Prestige".”

Our story

You may be asking yourself, what does an accounting firm have in common with magic? It’s a fair question. On the surface, they would appear to be entirely different. Magic (when done right) is fun, exciting and mysterious, while the accounting world tends to be boring, mundane and, well, also mysterious (but in a much less exciting way).

But if you look closer, there are some surprising similarities. And no, we don’t mean in a cheesy “we make your taxes disappear” type way (though we aren’t beyond claiming to make magic happen with your financials!). We are talking about the three acts of a magic trick, “The Pledge”, “The Turn” and “The Prestige”. Your business accounting can be broken down into three very similar “acts”, or in this case, packages.

”The Pledge” is ordinary. It’s bookkeeping at its most basic level. It may be something you do yourself, or it may be an outside bookkeeper you hire. But either way, there is nothing special about it. It’s simply taking the transactions that run through your business and placing them in the appropriate categories. It’s reactionary and gives no guidance on what the numbers are actually telling you.

“The Turn” takes ordinary accounting to an extraordinary set of numbers that actually mean something for your business. It works with you to understand what the numbers are telling you, such as where you are doing well, where you need to improve and what the tax implications are.

And finally, “The Prestige” takes it one step further. It takes those extraordinary financials, eliminates you entirely from the accounting and process of your business, and allows you to focus on what you do best, growing your business. If you’re ready to delegate your accounting responsibilities and love the idea of passing them onto a team of accounting experts who understand your business and how to take it to the next level, “The Prestige” is the package for you.

At The Prestige Journal, we have no interest in offering an average accounting experience. There’s an excessive number of bookkeepers out there offering ordinary service and we have no interest in joining them. We operate at the next two levels, “The Turn” and “The Prestige”. If you are ready to turn your ordinary business financials into the extraordinary, it’s time for us to talk.
